At The Face Place, we have your best interests at heart and a business can only survive long-term through a good reputation and a solid referral base. For this reason, we won’t just take your money for in-clinic treatments alone as there will be no long-term gain for you and your skin.
The skin, like any organ of the body, needs feeding with nutrition daily; just like the internal workings of your body, the skin uses and metabolises the nutrients we feed it, and therefore these need to be replaced daily. Unfortunately for the skin it has the added pressure of UV constantly breaking down those nutrients. As the skin is constantly being bombarded with UV, even from computers and lighting, driving or short periods outside we need to replace them topically with active skincare: a good diet is not enough to protect the skin and allow it to function well. Nutrients from the food we eat cannot get too specific places at significant doses to combat the depletion in UV exposed areas such as the face, neck, chest, and hands.
Regular in-clinic treatments are not enough to make sustained, long-term change in the skin; you could liken it to taking a vitamin supplement or exercising once a month and expecting a change in your general health. It’s what you do to your skin every day that counts, and treatment should be in addition to home care to compound and accelerate results. Remember whatever treatment you decide to opt for if you’re not using active home care your skin will remain depleted in essential nutrients. A skin that is nutritionally depleted (and this applies to all of us in those areas of skin that are continually exposed to light) cannot function in a normal, healthy way which, further impacts the skins ability to protect itself from UV, creating a vicious cycle.
Before embarking on any course of treatment, we recommend you implement the fundamentals; vitamin A, C, B, and a good sunscreen.
- Vitamin A is a skin cell normalizer and helps reverse damage to the skin cell DNA.
- Vitamin C helps with oxidative stress from UV and is an integral part of your skin producing collagen.
- Vitamin B helps with oxidative stress, protects skin cell DNA, is anti-inflammatory, increases hydration and helps control overproduction of melanin.
Sunscreens generally only remain active for a couple of hours, even if it’s in your makeup and your make up is still there, the sunscreen will have become inactive. Our mantra is reapply, reapply, reapply! Thankfully make-up brands such as Jane Iredale and Colorescience make reapplication easy with their travel-ready products that provide immediate on the go coverage. A must for everyone’s handbag!
