Dermal Filler For Loss of Facial Volume
FAQs
How does volume loss contribute to ageing?
Loss of facial volume is a natural part of the ageing process. How you age is part genetic and part environmental/lifestyle factors. The ageing process results in a decrease of collagen, elastin, bone and muscle mass and the fat pads in the face. As the structure supporting the skin becomes depleted, the skin begins to lose its firmness and fullness.
In our younger years we tend to have high cheekbones, a defined jawline and smooth, plump skin. These features create a shape that is associated with a youthful appearance – one that is wider at the top and tapers down to the narrowest point of at chin (think of an upside-down triangle). As we age, the triangle becomes inverted resulting in a heavier lower face and jawline, flatter cheeks, thinner lips and the gravitation of skin downwards.
What areas can lose volume?
The areas that lose volume include; the cheeks, the brow, the under eye area, the jawline and the lips.
As the cheeks sag and lose volume, they descend from their usual high position in the face near the eyes, to a lower position. This leads to the formation of nasolabial folds (the folds from the corners of the nose to the mouth), sad mouth smile (the folds just beneath the corners of the mouth), and then jowls (the skin that sags beneath the jawline). This often gives a more square and masculine appearance to the face.
Volume can also be lost in the brows, which exposes the upper orbital rim, giving the face a more skeletal, hollow appearance.
When we recreate the youthful triangle by refilling the areas of lost volume, the skin and face will often appear fuller giving a refreshed apperance.
What treatments are available?
Dermal Fillers: a skilled clinician can replace the areas of volume loss to create a natural and refreshed appearance. The HA fillers used at The Face Place are reversible if for any reason you do not like the results (we know you’ll love them – the results are instant!)
Vampire Facelift: this combines fillers to replace bony loss and PRP to gently rejuvenate your fat pads. This gives a more subtle and slower result, ideal for those only wanting small, subtle changes in the face, or those with early volume loss changes.
What's the first step?
You must have an Initial Injectable Consultation before proceeding with your first treatment – regardless of if you have had this treatment elsewhere. This ensures you are fully educated and informed before proceeding with treatment. We are a best-practice clinic and consistently deliver optimal results by placing paramount importance on education and informed consent.
Your Initial Injectable Consultation is to provide education, a tailored assessment and a bespoke plan. If you plan to proceed with treatment for volume loss, you will also need to book a second appointment slot for treatment, as we are a best practice clinic and like you to think about your options before proceeding with fillers or Vampire Facelift.
