Dermal fillers are advanced cosmetic injectables designed to restore lost volume, smooth lines, lift and sculpt facial contours, and refresh your appearance with subtle, natural-looking results. Considered one of the most skillful and artistic injectable treatments, dermal filler requires a trained professional to enhance your unique facial features while maintaining natural expression and balance.
We exclusively use Hyaluronic Acid (HA) based fillers - biodegradable, effective, and reversible with a natural enzyme called hyaluronidase. HA is a sugar molecule naturally found in the body that diminishes with age, leading to thinner, drier skin and volume loss. By carefully injecting HA filler at precise depths, we can rejuvenate and reshape areas of the face instantly and beautifully.
What Can Dermal Fillers Do?
Dermal fillers can address a variety of concerns and areas, including:
Lips: Restore hydration, volume, and natural contours without overfilling or unnatural shapes.
Under-eye Hollows (Tear Troughs): Lift and blend the lower eyelid with the cheek for a refreshed, less tired look.
Cheeks and Mid-Face: Replenish volume loss to lift sagging skin and recreate youthful contours.
Nasolabial and Marionette Lines: Soften deeper folds around the nose and mouth for a smoother appearance.
Chin and Jawline: Define and sculpt the lower face, improving profile balance and strengthening facial structure.
Hands and Other Areas: Rejuvenate volume loss beyond the face when appropriate.
Dermal fillers can also restore facial symmetry in cases of trauma or facial palsy, helping to rebuild natural balance.
How Does It Work?
Our expert clinicians assess your facial anatomy and ageing pattern during an initial consultation, creating a bespoke treatment plan tailored to your goals and proportions. Treatments are often performed in stages to achieve gradual, natural enhancements that keep improving over time.
Because we prioritise safety and natural results, we carefully select the appropriate filler type, amount, and injection technique for each area. The effects are immediate, with results typically lasting between 6 to 18 months depending on the product and treatment area.
Dermal fillers are considered medical devices and treatments carry risks and benefits. Individual results will vary. Our highly trained doctors and nurses thoroughly discuss potential risks and side effects during your consultation. We do not use permanent fillers due to their higher risk profile and long-term complications. Our approach focuses on temporary, natural enhancements that evolve with your changing features.
The First Step: Consultation
Every dermal filler journey begins with an Initial Injectable Consultation. This is your opportunity to be fully informed about treatment options, benefits, risks, and to receive a personalised assessment. Whether you’ve had treatment elsewhere or are new to fillers, this step ensures you feel confident and educated before proceeding.
Dissolving Dermal Filler Safely with Hyalase
Dermal fillers made from hyaluronic acid (HA) are among the most popular cosmetic injectables worldwide. They’re used to restore volume, soften lines, and enhance facial contours such as lips, cheeks, chin, and under-eye areas. A major advantage of HA fillers is that they are temporary and reversible, typically lasting between 4 to 18 months depending on the product used.
When needed, unwanted or misplaced HA filler can be dissolved quickly and effectively using Hyalase - an injectable enzyme (hyaluronidase) that naturally breaks down hyaluronic acid in the body. Hyalase accelerates the breakdown of the filler, allowing your body to absorb and remove it as carbon dioxide and water.
Over time, some people may experience filler migration or excessive volume buildup, particularly when treated frequently or with larger amounts. This can lead to unnatural appearances, such as the ‘duck lip’ effect from filler migrating into the upper lip or puffiness under the eyes. While filler migration can happen after any treatment, it is more commonly linked to over-treatment or inappropriate product placement.
If you’re unhappy with your filler results - whether treated at The Face Place or at another clinic - we can assess and dissolve the filler as needed. We do recommend initially contacting your original provider to allow them to manage corrections. However, if that isn’t possible, we are experienced and ready to assist.
Before dissolving filler with Hyalase, a patch test on your arm is always performed to rule out any allergic reactions, as all products carry a very small risk of allergy. If a reaction occurs during this test, the treatment will not proceed, and we will discuss alternatives.
Hyalase begins working immediately upon injection, with visible results typically appearing within 24 to 48 hours. Some swelling is normal in the treated area. For optimal healing, we recommend waiting approximately two weeks before considering any further filler treatments to allow your tissues to fully recover.
For clients with migrated or overfilled lips, dissolving filler with Hyalase can offer a “clean canvas” to start fresh, helping achieve more natural, balanced results in subsequent treatments. Similarly, unwanted filler under the eyes can be effectively dissolved to reduce puffiness and restore a smoother contour.
All dermal fillers are Class III medical devices for creating definition
and volume to the area treated. Medical devices and treatments carry
risks and benefits. Individual results will vary. Speak to one of our
qualified Cosmedicine Nurses or Doctors to see what might be right for
you and to explain the possible side effects.
Hyalase (Hyaluronidase 1500IU powder for injection) is classified as a prescription only medicine in New Zealand and should only be administered by qualified healthcare professionals. It temporarily breaks down the hyaluronic acid filler under the skin, allowing the body to absorb and remove it. As with any medical treatment, individual results may vary, and potential risks exist. We encourage you to discuss all concerns and questions with our expert Cosmedicine Nurses or Doctors during your appointment.
