IPL Preparation

It’s time to start thinking about your IPL treatments!

As the IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) treatment season approaches, it’s essential for our clients to understand the process and prepare adequately for their treatment journey. IPL therapy is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure that utilises pulses of broad-spectrum light to target various skin concerns, including pigmentation irregularities, sun damage, rosacea, and unwanted hair. Clients should expect a series of sessions spaced several weeks apart to achieve optimal results, as IPL works gradually to improve skin tone and texture.

To ensure the best outcomes and a comfortable experience, clients should prepare for their IPL treatments. Firstly, they should schedule a consultation with one of our Medical Skin Therapist’s in our Britomart clinic to discuss their skincare goals, medical history, and any concerns they may have. It’s crucial for clients to disclose any medications they are taking or underlying medical conditions to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the treatment. Additionally, clients should have adopted good habits in terms of avoiding UV exposure to the treatment area, and this should be an ongoing habit. Not avoiding UV exposure can increase the risk of complications such as burns or uneven pigmentation.

Lastly, clients should follow pre-treatment guidelines provided by our clinic, which may include avoiding certain skincare products or medications that can make the skin more sensitive to light. By adequately preparing for their IPL journey, clients can embark on a path towards radiant, rejuvenated skin with confidence and peace of mind.  IPL is great for removing certain types of pigmentation, but it is the use of antioxidants and Vitamin A and effective sunscreens that treat the damaged cells and protects from further damage, therefore a minimum prep time of one month on the appropriate skin care is required before treatment .

We strongly advise you have a skin check prior to treatment with IPL, as it could potentially remove signs of damage or cancerous cells.
