Dermal filler is a cosmetic injectable treatment used to add volume, lift and sculpt facial contours and minimise deeper lines and wrinkles. It is widely considered to require the most skill and artistry of all injectables. When treated by a trained professional, it can increase volume, soften lines, enhance, sculpt and restore the youthful three-dimensional contours of the face. We believe that skilled dermal filler work should be invisible. Meaning that it shouldn’t be overtly obvious. We want to ensure you still look like yourself but with a subtle, natural-looking refresh. We only use HA (Hyaluronic Acid) based fillers which are biodegradable and easily reversible with the natural enzyme, hyaluronidase, and are hence safer. HA is a sugar molecule found naturally in our bodies which we lose from our skin as we age, making it more dry and fragile. By injecting HA directly back into the skin at different depths, we can achieve beautiful, instant results.
Will my dermal filler results be noticeable?
Good filler is invisible. A lot of people are wary of dermal filler, as they only see the ‘bad work’ out there. It’s understandable, we wouldn’t want ‘duck-lips’ or ‘pillow-cheeks’ either! Skilled filler work isn’t visible, it just helps you look (and feel) refreshed while still retaining what is special and unique to you. Often we will provide filler treatments in several stages. This ensures we get continuous, subtle but significant changes that just keep looking better and better!
What are the risks?
Our clinicians are trained, highly skilled doctors and registered nurses. The possible risks and side effects will be outlined and discussed in your initial consultation although these risks are unlikely and rare. We only use HA (Hyaluronic Acid) fillers which are made from a naturally occurring sugar molecule found in the human body – only in a stabilised form.
Can you remove dermal filler?
Some fillers are reversible, but not all of them. Look for HA (hyaluronic acid) based fillers – good brand names include Juvederm, Belotero, Teosyal and Emervel. HA fillers can be dissolved quickly and easily by using the enzyme Hyalase – once injected, it starts working in about 5-10 minutes, and has usually completed its job in about 48 hours. It can be used to blend a result that’s ‘not quite right’, or to dissolve filler complications such as nodules (lumps) and vascular occlusion (a blocked blood vessel).
Do you offer permanent dermal fillers?
No. Permanent fillers can create permanent problems such as granuloma (permanent lumps that need surgical removal) and serious infections. If you have existing permanent filler in your face (such as Aquamid, Artecoll, Artefill, Bellafill, and others) you will need to see Dr Cat. Many good clinics will not treat over the top of permanent fillers due to the higher chance of serious side effects. Your face shape and bone structure changes as you age, so injecting permanent dermal filler can cause significant issues in the longer term. We only use temporary, high quality HA dermal filler.
