PRP Overview

PRP stands for ‘Platelet Rich Plasma’ and it helps to improve your skin’s texture, thickness and luminosity.

Platelet Rich Plasma uses the healing properties of your own platelets and plasma (taken from a small sample of your blood), to stimulate cellular rejuvenation and improve the skin’s texture and elasticity. This is great for thin crepey skin, especially around the eyes, neck, décolletage, full face and hands. We also commonly use it to help treat hair loss.

The treatment itself takes about 30-60 minutes and is performed by one of our expert nurses who have been highly trained in this technique. A course of treatments involves 3-4 appointments, spaced 1 month apart, and results can be maintained with a single repeat treatment every 6-12 months.

FAQs

What's the first step?
You must have an Initial Injectable Consultation before proceeding with your first treatment – regardless of if you have had this treatment elsewhere. This ensures you are fully educated and informed before proceeding with treatment. We are a best-practice clinic and consistently deliver optimal results by placing paramount importance on education and informed consent.
Is PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) safe?
It is a very safe treatment – primarily because we are using the healing parts of your own blood so there is no chance of an allergic reaction or serious side-effects. Swelling and redness of the treated areas is common especially around the eyes, although usually only for 24 – 48 hours. Some bruising may occur and although this can be covered with make-up after the initial 24 hour period it can sometimes take 1-2 weeks to clear completely.
How long has PRP been around for?

The concept of PRP began in the 1970s in the field of hematology, which is the study of blood. Then, in the 1980s and 1990s, PRP began to be used during surgical procedures because it has many properties that help with wound closure, reducing inflammation, and increasing new cell growth. The most common procedures in which it was used were periodontal surgery, maxillofacial surgery, cosmetic surgery, and skin grafting.

Platelet-rich plasma has been found to significantly enhance the healing process, and has since been used to support wound healing in trauma and joint injury.

PRP has also been demonstrated to improve function and reduce pain in people who have tendonitis or chronic tendinosis conditions such as tennis elbow or golfer’s elbow. It’s very versatile!

The technique can help rejuvenate skin, address hair loss, stimulate the growth of hair transplants and enhance other cosmetic procedures.

When will results of a PRP treatment show?

PRP stimulates collagen production in the skin and fuels the treatment area with stem cells and growth factors. This helps enhance the skin tone, strengthen dermal integrity and boost skin health on the face and body. Results of PRP can start becoming visible at 3 weeks and increase gradually over ensuing months – the results are cumulative and get better and better!
