Tell us about your career to date and what led you to appearance medicine…
Over the years of being a doctor, I have worn many hats. I am currently working as a Doctor in a General Practice and in a Skin Cancer Service Clinic, but I previously worked in both Plastic and General Surgery. During my time in the Plastic Surgery department, I fell in love with the artistic side of medicine and saw the importance of meticulous and delicate work.
I was fortunate to have a colleague already working in appearance medicine. She introduced me to this field when I left hospital work. I was instantly hooked! I love being able to be creative again. I also enjoyed interactions with my appearance medicine patients who have been the most grateful and wonderful patients I ever encountered.
What excites you about joining The Face Place?
I have always considered The Face Place to be the best in the cosmetic industry. I feel privileged to work with an incredible group of talented individuals who prioritise integrity in cosmetic medicine.
In terms of appearance medicine trends – what have you been noticing in the industry lately
Overall, I think that there is a shift towards a more natural appearance, with influencers promoting dissolving overdone fillers. There is also more awareness of ethnic diversity in cosmetic medicine and different cultural beauty standards around the world. I think this is fantastic, as it challenges the clinician to treat patients in their social context, rather than imposing a single beauty stereotype.
What do you see as being some of the common misconceptions about appearance medicine in today’s society?
Appearance medicine tends to be perceived as shallow and disconnected from true health. However, I have found that most patients are not seeking cosmetic treatments for merely superficial reasons. Most of my patients have lost confidence in ageing or have specific insecurities about their appearance. Treating these patients leads to genuine mental health improvement, which is deeply rewarding.
What are some of your favourite areas to treat or treatments to perform?
My personal passion is chin filler. I find that the chin is the unsung hero of the face. We don’t often notice it, as we see ourselves mainly from the front in the mirror. However, a proportionate chin is key to framing the face and balancing the nose. It is a lot of fun to treat, and my patients are often surprised by what a positive difference it makes!
What can clients expect when they come to see you?
Patients can expect to meet with a listener, who tries to understand their concerns. I see each person as unique and tailor treatments according to their individual needs. Patients can rely on me to give honest feedback, and to aim for the best outcome, even if this means saying no sometimes. I also enjoy educating my patients, so that they can make informed decisions regarding their treatment plan.
How would you describe yourself in three words?
Honest, attentive, detailed.
Tell us about yourself outside of work – interests, hobbies, family?
I love spending time with family and friends, especially over a delicious meal! I am also a bit of a nerd and love a good history book and I have a passion for skiing. My husband and I are active members of our local church. We are so blessed to be part of a loving and supportive community.
