Skin Peels

Skin peels are based on the principles of introducing high levels of nutrients to the skin with an element of exfoliation. Principally they will increase the health of the skin through improved cellular activity; over time skin thickness is increased, and hydration, colour, and texture improved. The procedure is sometimes used on other parts of the body, including the back, chest, décolletage and hands. Correctly used, these superficial to medium-depth, peels can give wonderful results, for any skin. Light peels give very little discomfort, minimal shedding, and little or no downtime.

We have a range of peels that will be suited for most people – the choice will be up to your Medical Skin Therapist and will depend on; your concerns, lifestyle, medical history, skin type, and condition.

Our range of peels work at various levels, targeting different concerns, and are always tailored for the individual. Below are three different ‘styles’ of peels, each being used for a different concern.

Concerns: Dehydrated, rough in texture, congested or dull skin.

Results: Superficial peels work by lifting off the dead skin cells that sit on the top surface of your skin. Superficial lactic peels gently exfoliate the skin and induce hydration, improving skin cell health. This gentle exfoliation process removes rough, surface skin to leave the skin looking smooth and radiant.

Concerns: Sun damaged, wrinkled, large pore size, oily or high laxity skin.

Results: Following on from superficial peels, medium-depth peels will aid in reversing DNA damage. These peels will thicken the skin over time, softening pores, fine lines, and wrinkles and increase the skin’s ‘bounce’ or elasticity. Vascularity, tiny veins, or redness will decrease and colour will become more even.

Concerns: Acne or problem skin.

Results: This process is similar to the others, in which the peel can help exfoliate the top layers of the skin, having a ‘clearing’ effect. Depending on the type of acne, peels can be chosen for their hydration, antibacterial effect, or reversal of damage (such as acne scars).

Note: You will need to be an existing client who is on medical-grade skin care for at least 4 weeks before having this treatment. If you are not on medical-grade skin care, your first step is to book in for a skin assessment.

FAQs

What's the first step?
As with all of our skin services, you must have an Initial Skin Consultation before proceeding with your first treatment – regardless of if you have had this treatment elsewhere. This ensures you are fully educated and informed before proceeding with treatment.

We are a best-practice clinic and consistently deliver optimal results by placing paramount importance on education and informed consent.

What to expect after a skin peel?

We offer several types of peels ranging from very gentle to medium strength. The lighter peels will often leave your skin glowing whilst some of the medium strength peels may cause some slight swelling, pink looking skin and mild flaking/peeling.

How long do skin peel results last for?

Most people see a gradual and continual improvement after their first treatment. The total number of treatments varies depending on the condition of your skin. During your initial consultation, your Medical Skin Therapist will recommend a schedule for maximum results.

Do skin peels hurt?

Once activated the peel may feel a bit prickly and will warm the skin. There may be some mild discomfort with the stronger peels. Your skin may start to feel tight. Your skin may start peeling/flaking on day 2 and may last for 7 days depending on the strength of the peel. Some of the lighter peels give little or no flaking or peeling. Ask your Medical Skin Therapist what might be right for you.

Will a skin peel cause me any harm?

Our protocols are gold standard, efficient and effective. If you do find at any time during the skin peel that you are getting uncomfrtable, your Skin Therapist is in the room with you the entire time and can stop it at any moment.

How long does a skin peel take?

Treatments take between 30-60 minutes depending on the type of peel. Although some of the peels can be used with no preparation at all, some require that you prepare your skin with special skin products for between 10-30 days before treatment.

How quickly does a skin peel work?

This will depend on the health and condition of your skin. Your Medical Skin Therapist will tailor a course of treatments to your skin.
